Welcome! BLACK-FATHERS exist to serve as an outreach for the growing number of children, mothers and even fathers who want and need the perspective of a black father. This idea came about after thinking about ways to address the growing problem of fathersless homes in our community. Currently, 80% of all African American births occur to a single parent. Of those in households with fathers and mothers, over 50% will end in divorce, taking the fatherless homes number into the the high 80s. These househoulds and communties suffer for lack of fathers. Fathers providing guidance, support, encourgement, money and most importantly love. It is our belief and committment that men - black men have a major roll to play in stemming this ever growing problem. In Chicago, out-of-wedlock births are 77% of every 100 births. Only one out of every 100 black male public school graduates will go on to earn a college degree. Our site exists to answer questions and address issues for children, teens, mothers and yes, even fathers; and all from a black male christian perspective. We also welcome individual questions being sent to us.
